Today is a typical weekday for us, but with a little twist. We’re spending it in Thailand! And just like any other workday, we have a lot to squeeze in. Here’s how it goes:
While the kids watch Mr. Beast and munch on oatmeal, we head to the farmer’s market.
There, we pick up some greens and veggies (we eat so many vitamins here). This bundle of freshness cost us 85 baht (about $2.30). Delicious!
On our way, we come across a row of flowers. How could we resist freshly cut lotuses for 20 baht (about $0.54)? We grab a bouquet to brighten up our table.
We also need to remember to grab some chicken fillets to make a Caesar salad tomorrow. We paid 95 baht (about $2.58) for a kilogram of fresh chicken. Wonder why chickens in Thailand are yellow?
At the exit, we notice a pile of durians. Can’t say we’re big fans of this fruit. But we eat them little by little as medicine or vitamins. Durians contain organic sulfur and are amazing for rejuvenating the body. Can’t pass that up! Price per kilogram — 130 baht (about $3.52).
Back home, we have a little photo session on the balcony to post on our Instagram. The kids aren’t thrilled and try to chase us away to eat this mess outside. Fun!
Here’s what the fruit looks like on the inside. Honestly, pretty gross. But maybe we’ll get used to it someday? Probably better to eat durians than to order vitamins from iHerb.
Now it’s time to get to work. I need to make some edits to an article. I write for an interior design magazine that comes out once a month.
Alex is editing a new video for our YouTube channel. It’s also work. Filming an episode can be pretty quick, but editing, color correction, and sound tuning take anywhere from a week to two. And that’s with daily work! Yeah, being a blogger isn’t as easy as it seems.
Meanwhile, our daughter is crafting — making bead bracelets. There are a lot of kids in our residential complex, and they’ve organized their own gang. They sell these bracelets near the 7/11, and adults willingly buy them. Yesterday, our daughter brought home 140 baht (about $3.80)! It’s her first earnings. She asked us to buy her more beads with it to earn even more :) Real business!
While we work, fish soup is simmering in the kitchen. We always cook lunches at home. But dinners, we usually buy ready-made. Because evenings are very short on time. And we come back from walks very hungry.
After soup, it’s time for more edits, work calls, writing posts on our LiveJournal and social media. Our son is taking an online test at his school.
At 4:00 PM, we drop off the kids at the sports ground. Matvey is into table tennis. A cool international team gathers near the Decathlon store. Our son plays with French, Chinese, Thai, and Russian kids in turn. He loves this time. Our daughter is rollerblading with her friend from France.
The playground is open, and if you don’t move actively, you can feed the mosquitoes. So, we leave the kids and run errands. We go to the mall for shopping, to the grocery store for basic groceries, or to the Thai market for kebabs, rice, and ready-made food.
At 6:30 PM, we witness the most beautiful sunsets of our lives.
Then we return home, have cold beer with ice, and eat our dinner. The kids have mineral water with concentrated syrup and lime juice. It’s a cool alternative to soda, by the way! We really love this evening time when we can try new local dishes and watch travel blogs on YouTube little by little. But we can’t stay up too late because…
There’s the evening pool with romantic lighting, where it’s so nice to dip before bed. After a whole day under the sun, the water manages to warm up significantly. And it feels like taking a huge bath under the moonlight. So magical and atmospheric!
By the way, not only we crawl out to enjoy the moonlight but also some dark forces. We’ve seen scorpions in the parking lot, giant cockroaches, frogs, and toads that blow up like balloons. So, there’s never a dull moment.
The day comes to an end, which means it’s time to sleep to wake up tomorrow — and start it all over again :) But we still have some time to continue editing the video. We just love it, adore it, really :0 Our daughter listens to an audiobook on her phone as she falls asleep. Our son — his own playlist on YouTube Music. At 11:00 PM, when everyone’s already asleep, he’ll start rattling his cot as usual and wake everyone up.
Well, that’s how the day went. A typical day in Thailand. See you tomorrow!
